Today was my happiest day ever, both my father and my brother got to take me down the aisle just like I’ve always wanted.
I guess lots of people had one of those dreams, walking down the aisle with their loved ones to hold their hands tight. I had one too. My perfect ceremony, my happiest day. I’ve always wanted to hold the ceremony at the church my family goes to since I was a kid. The place was beautiful, a broken white building with a high roof, big strong pillars, there’s painting of angels in heaven on the wall. I dreamed of wearing a beautiful long white gown and a veil to cover my face until the love of my life uncovered it after the pastor said, “you may kiss your bride.” My parents, siblings, and family would sit on the front row and clap with happy tears as they watched me kiss my groom, my friends on the back would cheer for me and everyone invited would be happy for me and my groom. It would be perfect.
I remembered the time I talked about it to my brother. He asked me if he could walk me down the aisle with our father. Which I replied with, “You’re going to make me fall before I could reach the altar.”
He was twelve, still shorter than me by a few inches.I remembered his bright smile, trying to make himself taller than me by tip-toeing in front of me. “No, I promise. I’ll be tall enough and hold you tight so you won’t fall!”
And he kept his promise. He held me tight and made sure I wouldn’t fall today.
The day was more peaceful for me than I thought it would be at the church. I’ve had my makeup on since early in the morning, the lady was so nice and careful. She managed to put some colors on my pale face, I looked so beautiful. My mother made me wear my prettiest white dress with my favorite headband. She also let me wear my favorite jewelry.
The sun was already high in the sky as they took me down the aisle of the church. My body felt so light as if there’s no more heavy weight on my shoulder. The candles near the altar were burning, illuminating the paintings on the wall. Tears fell from my relatives’ eyes as they took me to the altar. I could see my father and brother trying their best to hold their tears too . Yet, I was beyond happy being held by them.
My ceremony was so beautiful that I would cry if I could. My father said I’ll always be his little girl, that I’ll always be close to his heart even when I’m far away. He was right. I’ll always be close to their heart even when I’m far away. I’ll always love them, be their daughter and sister. I hope they’ll let me have my new beginning because I had the life I wanted. I’ve lived my life happily and full of love because of them.
I wish I could say those words to them before my ceremony was over. I wish I could let them know I’m at peace before they looked at me one last time at the altar and sealed my casket.
